Former President's Cup player Bradley Hughes has committed to play in the inaugural 2010 United States Match Play Championship, to be held June 29-July 3 at Pebble Creek Country Club in Taylors, South Carolina, just outside Greenville.  To date, Hughes is the highest-profile player to commit to the event.

In 1994, Hughes, originally from Australia, was named to the President's Cup team in 1994, representing the International team.  A former PGA Tour Player, Hughes also played on the Nationwide Tour, winning the 2004 Wichita Open.  He also is a two-time champion of the prestigious Australian Masters, winning in 1993 and 1998.

Q: If I qualify for match play, when can I expect to be paid?
A: All who qualify for match play will be required to fill out a W-9 form (W-8 if not a US resident). A check will be sent to the address you provide within one week of receipt of your W-9 or W-8 form.

Q: Do you have a host hotel for the event?
A: We do not have a host hotel per se, but we have set up an arrangement with the Hilton for a room rate of $89 per room, plus tax. The Greenville area also has a number of hotels and motels at various price points.

Q: Where can I obtain my tee times for the stroke-play qualifier?
A: Tee times will be available online at www.usgtfmembers.com under the heading 2010 United States Match Play Championship in the Member News category by 12:00 noon, Monday, June 21. You may also call the USGTF National Office at (888) 346-3290 or (772) 335-3216.

Q: Where can I obtain my tee time and opponent’s name for match play?
A: This information will also be posted at www.usgtfmembers.com under the heading 2010 United States Match Play Championship in the Member News category, as soon as the stroke-play qualifier is ended or as each round of match play is ended and as we are able to enter the information online. We will also have the information made available at Pebble Creek in the scoring area. You may also call the tournament director, Mark Harman, at (912) 220-1697.

Q: What is the USGTF’s background in conducting a large-scale professional event?
A: Each year, the USGTF conducts its annual national championship event, the United States Golf Teachers Cup, at various locations around the United States. Tournament director Mark Harman is an experienced competitor, having played in multiple US Open Local and Sectional qualifiers and in over 100 mini-tour events, and was a fully-exempt player in 1997 on the Hooters Tour. Mark is also an experienced tournament director, having run the United States Golf Teachers Cup since 2002, and has also run tournaments in other venues.

Q: Will type of award will the champion receive?
A: In addition to prize money, the champion will receive a replica of the United States Match Play Championship trophy, to keep possession of for one year. The champion will also be featured prominently in Golf Teaching Pro, the official membership publication of the World Golf Teachers Federation.

Q: What is the dress code?
A: Players may wear slacks or appropriate length shorts, no denim, and a collared or non-collared shirt appropriate for golf.

Q: Will GPS or laser devices to measure distances be allowed?
A: Yes, provided they don't adjust measurements for the slope of the terrain.
