I went to college
in Illinois on the GI Bill after a tour in Vietnam. I joined the
police force shortly after returning, and retired after 21
years. I should mention that I did play a lot of golf most of my
life from high school right up until the present.
I married my wife
Susan, who at the time was the general manager of a private
country club in Simsbury, Connecticut. She hired me as the food
and beverage director and part-time golf shop assistant, where I
first got interested in teaching the game.
We moved to
Florida in 1991, where she was offered a general manager’s
position at another private club in Melbourne, and I was offered
an assistant professional’s position at Baytree National Golf
Links. My general manager told me when I was going through the
apprentice program that I could not teach until I went to an
accredited teaching facility, and that they would pay all my
expenses for the training.
Enter the USGTF,
which had the reputation of being the largest and best
organization for learning how to teach golf. After receiving my
Level III certification, I built up a great client list,
including an LPGA Tour player, a Nationwide Tour player, and a
junior golf academy. After nine years at Baytree, we moved to
South Carolina, where my wife was recruited for the executive
director of food service for Clemson University, and I became
the head teaching professional at Pebble Creek Country Club in
Greenville.
Thanks to the
USGTF, I now have an America’s Favorite Golf School facility
here at Pebble Creek, and will be receiving my Master Teaching
Professional certification this year. For all golfers out there
who are willing to work hard and be associated with the best
instructors around the world, look no further. The United States
Golf Teachers Federation has been the best and most rewarding
career decision I ever made. If you have any questions you can
